Apple Watch SE 3 Review 2026: India Price, Features, Specs & Verdict

By Dr. Krishna Athmakuri, Co-Founder & CEO, Clearcals | Updated May 2026

The Apple Watch SE 3 is Apple's answer to a simple question: What is the least you can spend and still get a genuine Apple Watch?

At ₹25,400 for the GPS 40mm at Clearcals, the SE 3 covers the core Apple Watch experience — GPS tracking, heart rate monitoring, crash detection, swim tracking, and seamless iPhone integration — without the advanced health sensors that push the Series 11 to ₹45,900.

This review covers what you actually get, what you don't, and whether the SE 3 is the right watch for you.

Display

The SE 3 uses Apple's Retina LTPO OLED display — bright, colour-accurate, and easy to read outdoors. The key limitation compared to the Series 11 is the absence of an always-on display. The SE 3 uses raise-to-wake: the screen activates when you lift your wrist or tap it, and goes dark when your wrist is down.

For most users, this is fine. If you check your watch frequently during meetings, workouts, or when your hands are occupied, an always-on display is genuinely more convenient — and that requires stepping up to the Series 11.

The 40mm case has a usable and readable display for daily notifications and health stats. If you prefer more screen space or have larger wrists, the 44mm variant gives you meaningfully more room.

Health and Safety Features

What the SE 3 has

Heart rate monitoring. Continuous wrist-based optical heart rate tracking throughout the day and during workouts. Irregular rhythm notifications alert you if the watch detects signs of atrial fibrillation between normal readings — an important passive safety feature.

Fall detection. The SE 3 detects hard falls and, if you're immobile for 60 seconds after, automatically calls emergency services and sends your location to your emergency contacts. It works during workouts and daily activities.

Crash detection. Designed for car, motorcycle, and cycle crashes — the SE 3 uses its accelerometer and gyroscope to detect severe impacts and automatically calls emergency services if you don't respond within 10 seconds. Available on SE 3 from day one; this was not available on older Apple Watch models.

Emergency SOS. Hold the side button to call emergency services directly from your wrist. Works independently of the iPhone on the Cellular variant.

Menstrual cycle tracking. Logs period dates and symptoms through Apple Health. Predictions improve over time.

Sleep tracking. Basic sleep tracking, including time asleep and awake, sleep stages (Core, Deep, REM), and heart rate during sleep.

Workout tracking. 40+ workout types with automatic detection for common activities including running, walking, cycling, swimming, and more. GPS data is captured for outdoor activities; heart rate zones, pace, and elevation are tracked throughout.

Swim tracking. Water resistant to 50m. Automatic pool swim detection with lap counting and stroke recognition. Also suitable for open-water swimming, surfing, and water sports.

What the SE 3 does not have

The SE 3 does not include ECG, blood oxygen (SpO2) sensor, blood pressure alerts, skin temperature, or the always-on display. These are exclusive to the Series 11 and Ultra 3. If any of these features are important to your health monitoring needs, the SE 3 is not the right watch — the Series 11 starts at ₹45,900.

Fitness and Workout Tracking

For everyday fitness use, the SE 3 performs extremely well. Built-in GPS tracks outdoor runs, rides, and hikes accurately. Heart rate zones display in real time during workouts. Apple Fitness+ integration gives you access to guided workouts directly on the watch. The Activity rings — Move, Exercise, Stand — provide the daily motivation framework that Apple Watch users know well.

The SE 3 does not have Running Power or advanced training metrics like the Garmin Forerunner series. For recreational runners, cyclists, and gym-goers, it is more than adequate. For athletes following structured training plans with VO2 max tracking, Training Readiness, and running dynamics, a Garmin Forerunner is a better fit.

Battery Life

Rated at up to 18 hours of standard use — consistent with all Apple Watch models except the Ultra 3. In practice, most users get through a full day comfortably, with the watch needing a charge overnight. If you use GPS-intensive workouts daily, your battery may run down faster.

The SE 3 does not have a Low Power Mode that extends to 36 hours like the Series 11. This makes overnight sleep tracking while also using the watch during the day a tighter proposition — you'll need to find charging windows if you want to track both consistently.

Family Setup

A distinctive feature of the SE 3 is Family Setup, which allows a child or elderly family member to use the watch independently — with calls, location sharing, and emergency SOS — without needing their own iPhone. The watch is managed from a parent's or caregiver's iPhone. This is a practical reason many parents choose the SE 3 for children rather than the Series 11.

GPS and Cellular Variants

The GPS variant is the most popular choice — it connects to your iPhone for data, calls, and messages when nearby. The GPS + Cellular variant has a built-in eSIM and works independently, allowing calls and messages even when your iPhone is at home. Cellular requires a plan add-on from Jio, Airtel, or Vi.

For most users who keep their phone nearby, the GPS variant at ₹25,400 is the right starting point. The Cellular variant at ₹30,400 is worth considering for runners or gym-goers who frequently leave their phone behind.

Apple Watch SE 3 vs Series 11: The Key Decision

The SE 3 makes sense if: you want your first Apple Watch, you're buying for a child or teenager, your budget is under ₹35,000, or you primarily need a smartwatch for notifications and workout tracking without advanced health sensors.

The Series 11 makes sense if: health monitoring depth matters to you, you want ECG or blood oxygen data, or the always-on display is a priority.

Verdict

The Apple Watch SE 3 is excellent at what it sets out to do — deliver the Apple Watch experience at the most accessible price in the lineup. The core health and safety features (heart rate, fall detection, crash detection, emergency SOS, swim tracking) are solid and genuinely useful. The GPS is accurate, Apple Fitness+ integration works well, and the iPhone pairing experience is seamless.

What it doesn't do is provide the clinical-grade health sensor depth of the Series 11. If you know you want ECG, blood oxygen, or blood pressure alerts, the SE 3 will frustrate you — step up to the Series 11. But if you want a capable, reliable daily smartwatch at ₹25,400, the SE 3 is the right buy.

Buy the SE 3 if: First-time buyer, budget under ₹35,000, buying for a child, or you don't need ECG and SpO2. Buy the Series 11 instead if: You want ECG, blood oxygen, blood pressure alerts, or an always-on display.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Apple Watch SE 3 price in India? The Apple Watch SE 3 starts at ₹25,400 at Clearcals for the GPS 40mm variant — ₹500 below Apple India MRP. The GPS 44mm is ₹28,400, GPS + Cellular 40mm is ₹30,400, and GPS + Cellular 44mm is ₹33,400. All purchases include 1 month of Hint Pro free (worth ₹499).

Does the Apple Watch SE 3 have ECG? No. ECG is available on the Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3, not the SE 3. The SE 3 has heart rate monitoring and irregular rhythm notifications, but not the electrical heart sensor required for ECG readings.

Is the Apple Watch SE 3 waterproof? The SE 3 is water resistant to 50 metres — suitable for pool swimming, open-water swimming, surfing, and water sports. It has a dedicated swim workout mode with automatic lap detection and stroke recognition.

What is the difference between the Apple Watch SE 3 and the Series 11? The Series 11 adds an always-on display, ECG, blood oxygen sensor, and blood pressure alerts over the SE 3. It also has a newer chip and a brighter display. The SE 3 starts at ₹25,400; the Series 11 starts at ₹45,900. Both share core health and fitness features, including GPS, heart rate, crash detection, fall detection, and swim tracking.

Is the Apple Watch SE 3 good for running? Yes. The SE 3 has built-in GPS for accurate outdoor run tracking, continuous heart rate monitoring, pace and distance data, and automatic run detection. It works with Apple Fitness+ guided run workouts. For recreational runners, it provides everything you need. For serious runners following structured training plans with VO2 max and running power data, consider a dedicated running watch like the Garmin Forerunner series.

Does the Apple Watch SE 3 work with Android? No. All Apple Watch models require an iPhone running iOS 17 or later. If you use an Android phone, an Apple Watch will not work with your device. Consider a Garmin watch, which works with both iPhone and Android.

What is the battery life of the Apple Watch SE 3? Up to 18 hours of standard daily use. Most users charge overnight. GPS-intensive workouts will draw down battery faster. The SE 3 does not have the Low Power Mode found on the Series 11 that extends battery to 36 hours.
