Track your nutrition and health goals

Garmin has built its reputation on running watches. The Forerunner series has been a reference point for runners for over 20 years, and the current lineup ranges from an ₹18,500 entry-level GPS watch to a ₹52,990 military-grade AMOLED that doubles as a trail running and expedition watch.
The right choice depends on how seriously you train. A beginner runner needs accurate GPS and guided workouts.
An intermediate runner training for a half-marathon needs training load management and recovery data. An advanced runner or triathlete needs Running Power, Training Readiness, and multi-band GPS accuracy.
And at the elite end, the Forerunner 570 and 970 add advanced running dynamics, Sleep Coach, full maps, and ECG. This guide covers every level — with current Clearcals prices and Hint Premium included.

| Forerunner 165 Music | ₹30,990 | Standard | No | No | 19 hours |
| Vivoactive 5 | ₹24,990 | Standard | No | No | ~18 hours |
| Venu SQ 2 | ₹19,990 | Standard | No | No | ~12 hours |
| Forerunner 265 | ₹40,990 | Multi-band | Yes | Yes | 20 hours |
| Forerunner 570 (42mm) | ₹67,990 | Multi-band | Yes | Yes | 20 hours |
| Forerunner 570 (47mm) | ₹67,990 | Multi-band | Yes | Yes | 26 hours |
| Forerunner 970 | ₹92,990 | Multi-band | Yes | Yes | 31 hours |

GPS accuracy is the foundation. Standard GPS is adequate for road running on clear routes. Multi-band GPS — available on the Forerunner 265, Forerunner 570, Forerunner 970, and Instinct 3 — uses multiple satellite frequencies simultaneously, giving significantly better accuracy in dense urban environments, tree cover, and canyon roads where signals bounce or drop.
Training Readiness is Garmin's daily readiness score — it combines your overnight HRV, recent sleep quality, training load, and recovery time to give you a single score (0–100) each morning. A high score means you're ready to push; a low score means your body needs recovery. This feature is available from the Forerunner 265 upward and is one of the most useful tools for runners following a structured plan.
Running Power is a wrist-based effort measurement — the running equivalent of a cycling power meter. It tells you how much effort you're actually exerting on a given run, accounting for hills and terrain in a way pace alone cannot. Available from the Forerunner 265 and above.
Battery life in GPS mode matters most for long runs and races. A half-marathon takes 1.5–3 hours; a full marathon takes 3–6 hours. Every watch on this list handles those distances without issue. For ultra-runners or Ironman athletes, the Instinct 3's 30–40 GPS hours provide the largest margin.
Price: ₹18,500 at Clearcals
The Garmin Forerunner 55 is the most affordable GPS running watch in the Garmin lineup and the right starting point for new runners. It does what runners need most without complexity: accurate GPS tracking, wrist heart rate, daily suggested workouts, and Garmin Coach training plans.
Key running features: GPS pace, distance, and route; wrist-based heart rate zones; daily suggested workouts based on your current fitness level; Garmin Coach adaptive plans for 5K, 10K, and half marathon; VO2 max estimate; and up to 20 days of battery in smartwatch mode with 20 hours in GPS mode.
The FR55 does not have an AMOLED display (it uses a transflective MIP screen), music storage, Training Readiness, Running Power, or multi-band GPS. For beginner runners, none of these are necessary.
Who should buy: First-time runners, joggers building a base, and budget-conscious athletes who want reliable GPS and guided training without extra features.

The Garmin Forerunner 165 steps up from the FR55 with a bright AMOLED display, a more comprehensive health monitoring suite, and better daily usability while keeping the core running features intact.
Key running features: built-in GPS with pace, distance, and route tracking; wrist heart rate; daily suggested workouts and Garmin Coach plans; pool and open-water swim profiles; Body Battery energy monitoring; HRV Status; SpO2; and 11-day battery in smartwatch mode with 19 hours in GPS mode.
The FR165 Music edition adds offline music storage — you can sync Spotify, Deezer, or Amazon Music playlists and run without carrying your phone.
Important: the Forerunner 165 does not have Training Readiness, Running Power, or multi-band GPS. If you're training for a race with a structured plan and need daily readiness guidance and effort-based training, the Forerunner 265 is the appropriate upgrade.
Who should buy: Recreational runners who want an AMOLED screen and richer daily health tracking at a step below the FR265. Music edition buyers who want to run phone-free.

The Garmin Forerunner 265 is the most capable mid-range running watch Garmin makes and the clear choice for runners who train with a plan. It is the first watch in Garmin's India lineup where Training Readiness and Running Power become available — two features that meaningfully change how structured training works.
Key running features: multi-band GPS with SatIQ for superior accuracy; Training Readiness daily score; Running Power (wrist-based, no foot pod required); VO2 max and aerobic fitness trend; race predictor for 5K, 10K, half, and full marathon; PacePro elevation-adjusted pacing strategy; Training Load and Training Status (is your training productive, peaking, or overreaching?); Garmin Coach plans and adaptive suggested workouts; full triathlon mode with automatic sport transitions; offline music storage; and 13-day battery with 20 hours GPS mode.
The FR265 also comes in a smaller FR265S variant at the same price — same features, smaller 42mm case.
Who should buy: Intermediate to advanced runners training for a half-marathon, marathon, or triathlon. Anyone following a structured plan who needs daily readiness data and effort-based training metrics.

The Garmin Instinct 3 is not a Forerunner — it's a rugged outdoor watch that also happens to have the same running analytics as the FR265, plus durability features no Forerunner can match. For trail runners, ultramarathon athletes, and triathletes training in challenging terrain, it's a compelling alternative.
Key running and trail features: multi-band GPS with SatIQ; Training Readiness and Running Power (same as FR265); MIL-STD-810 military-grade durability; 10 ATM water resistance; ABC sensors (altimeter, barometer, compass) for trail navigation; built-in LED flashlight for pre-dawn runs; full triathlon mode with auto-transitions; and battery life of 30+ GPS hours (Solar) or 40 GPS hours (AMOLED).
The Solar variant uses a transflective MIP display — excellent in direct sunlight, where AMOLED screens wash out. For trail runners doing long days in bright conditions, this is a real advantage. Solar charging extends the battery during multi-hour runs.
The AMOLED variant has the same durability and GPS performance with a full colour touchscreen, suited to runners who want display quality alongside the rugged build.
Who should buy: Trail runners, ultramarathon athletes, Ironman triathletes, and runners who train in extreme heat or rough weather. Anyone who wants the FR265's analytics with significantly more durability and battery life.

The Garmin Vivoactive 5 is not a dedicated running watch — it's a lifestyle multi-sport watch that handles running alongside swimming, cycling, gym, yoga, and 30+ other activities. For runners who train across disciplines, it covers all bases in one watch.
Key features for runners: built-in GPS with pace, distance, and route; wrist heart rate; Body Battery and HRV Status for recovery monitoring; sleep tracking; 30+ sports modes; and 11-day battery in smartwatch mode. It does not have Training Readiness, Running Power, or multi-band GPS.
Who should buy: Recreational runners who participate in multiple sports and want a single watch for everything. Not the best choice for dedicated running analytics — the FR165 at a similar price point offers more running-specific features.

The Garmin Venu SQ 2 is the most affordable Garmin watch with an AMOLED display. It tracks runs with GPS, records heart rate zones, and covers 40+ sports modes. It is better described as a fitness smartwatch that can track runs than a dedicated running watch.
For runners who prioritise daily wearability, smart notifications, and a vivid display over running-specific analytics, the Venu SQ 2 is a capable and stylish option.
Who should buy: Casual runners who want a fashionable everyday smartwatch with GPS run tracking at the lowest price in Garmin's AMOLED lineup.

The Garmin Forerunner 570 is the step above the FR265 for runners who want the full analytics suite without the premium price of the FR970. It adds advanced running dynamics, Sleep Coach with nap tracking, and a longer GPS battery option — in two sizes to suit different wrist sizes and training needs.
Key running features: multi-band GPS with SatIQ; Running Power and advanced running dynamics (cadence, stride length, ground contact time, vertical oscillation); Sleep Coach for recovery optimisation across training blocks; Training Readiness, HRV Status, Body Battery; full triathlon mode with auto-transitions; AMOLED display with offline music storage.
Available in 42mm (20-hour GPS battery) and 47mm (26-hour GPS battery) — the 47mm gives a meaningful extra margin for marathon and ultra-distance racing. Smartwatch battery is 10–11 days. Water resistance: 5 ATM.
The FR570 does not have downloadable full-colour maps or ECG — those are exclusive to the FR970. For runners racing on marked courses who don't need navigation, the 570 delivers the complete analytics package at ₹25,000 less.
Who should buy: Serious runners and triathletes training for marathon, 70.3, or Ironman who want advanced running dynamics and Sleep Coach but can live without full maps.

Price: ₹92,990 at Clearcals
The Garmin Forerunner 970 is Garmin's current flagship running and triathlon watch — and the most analytically complete running watch available at Clearcals. It replaces the Forerunner 965 with ECG, a built-in LED flashlight, downloadable full-colour topographic maps, a sapphire crystal lens, a titanium bezel, and the longest GPS battery in the Forerunner lineup at 31 hours.
Key running features: multi-band GPS with SatIQ; full-colour downloadable topographic maps with turn-by-turn navigation; ECG for cardiac monitoring; Running Power and advanced running dynamics; Sleep Coach; Training Readiness, HRV Status, Body Battery, Morning Report; built-in LED flashlight for pre-dawn training; full triathlon mode with auto-transitions; 15-day smartwatch battery; 31-hour GPS battery. Water resistance: 5 ATM.
The 31-hour GPS battery covers every marathon finish time with margin to spare, and handles Ironman-distance events for all but the very slowest finishers. The full-colour maps are the standout practical addition for runners racing on unfamiliar courses or doing trail events where navigation matters.
Who should buy: Elite and competitive runners who want the most capable Forerunner available — particularly those who race on varied terrain, want ECG, or need the longest GPS battery in the Forerunner lineup.

For road runners in open conditions, standard GPS is accurate enough for pace and distance. The gap opens up in specific conditions: dense city blocks where buildings reflect GPS signals, tree-covered paths, hilly terrain, and tall canyon roads.
Multi-band GPS — available on the Forerunner 265, Forerunner 570, Forerunner 970, and Instinct 3 — uses multiple satellite frequencies (GPS + GLONASS + Galileo) simultaneously and applies Garmin's SatIQ algorithm to switch dynamically between frequencies. The result is more consistent accuracy in environments where standard GPS drifts. For track runners, city runners with tall buildings on their routes, and trail runners, multi-band GPS delivers a meaningful improvement.
Standard GPS on the FR55 and FR165 is accurate for most recreational use cases — open roads, parks, and clear-sky running. If your routes are straightforward, the extra GPS cost of upgrading to the FR265 isn't necessary for GPS reasons alone — the analytics features (Training Readiness, Running Power) are the more compelling reasons to upgrade.
Training Readiness answers the question: Should I train hard today or take it easy? Garmin calculates a score from 0–100 based on your overnight HRV variability, how long your body has been resting since your last hard effort, and your recent sleep quality. A score of 70+ means your body is recovered and ready to push. Below 40 means rest or easy effort. For runners following a training plan, this replaces guesswork with data.
Running Power measures the mechanical power output of your stride in watts — similar to how cycling power meters work. It accounts for hills and headwinds in a way pace can't: running at 6:00/km on flat ground requires very different effort than 6:00/km on an uphill. Running Power lets you train by effort rather than pace, which is especially useful for interval workouts and race-day pacing on courses with elevation change.
Both features appear together from the Forerunner 265 upward — and are available on the FR570, FR970, and Instinct 3 as well. They are not available on the FR165, FR55, VA5, or Venu SQ 2.

Which is the best Garmin watch for running in India? For serious runners training with a plan, the Forerunner 265 (₹40,990) is the best mid-range choice — multi-band GPS, Training Readiness, Running Power, and 20-hour GPS battery. For runners wanting advanced dynamics and Sleep Coach, the Forerunner 570 (₹67,990) is the next step up; for full maps and ECG, the Forerunner 970 (₹92,990) is the flagship. For trail running and endurance events, the Instinct 3 Solar (₹48,990) adds MIL-STD-810 durability, 10 ATM waterproofing, and 30+ GPS hours. For beginner runners, the Forerunner 55 (₹18,500) is the most affordable GPS running watch with guided training.
What is the difference between the Forerunner 165 and the Forerunner 265? The Forerunner 265 has multi-band GPS (more accurate in difficult environments), Training Readiness (daily readiness score), Running Power (wrist-based effort in watts), and PacePro pacing — none of which are on the FR165. The FR265 also has a longer GPS battery (20 hours vs 19 hours) and triathlon mode with auto-transitions. The FR165 is a capable recreational running watch at ₹27,990; the FR265 at ₹40,990 is the better choice for structured training.
Does the Garmin Forerunner 55 have GPS? Yes. The Forerunner 55 has built-in GPS that tracks pace, distance, and route for every outdoor run. It supports GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo satellite systems. It uses standard (not multi-band) GPS, which is accurate for road running and open environments. Battery in GPS mode is 20 hours.
Which Garmin watch has the best GPS accuracy for running? The Garmin Forerunner 265, Forerunner 570, Forerunner 970, and Instinct 3 (both Solar and AMOLED) all have multi-band GPS with SatIQ — the most accurate GPS available in Garmin's India lineup. Multi-band GPS performs significantly better than standard GPS in cities with tall buildings, tree-covered paths, and hilly terrain where satellite signals can bounce. For runners in open conditions, standard GPS on the FR55 and FR165 is adequate.
Does the Garmin Forerunner 265 have music? Yes. The Forerunner 265 supports offline music storage — you can sync playlists from Spotify, Amazon Music, or Deezer and run without your phone. The standard Forerunner 165 also supports music in its Music edition (₹30,990). The Forerunner 55 does not have music storage.
Is the Garmin Instinct 3 good for running? Yes — the Instinct 3 has the same running analytics as the Forerunner 265, including multi-band GPS, Training Readiness, Running Power, and triathlon mode. It adds MIL-STD-810 durability, 10 ATM water resistance, ABC sensors, and a built-in flashlight. The Solar variant provides 30+ hours in GPS mode. For trail runners and endurance athletes, it is the stronger choice over the FR265. For road runners who don't need the rugged build, the FR265 is more compact and similarly priced.
What Garmin watch should a beginner runner buy? The Forerunner 55 (₹18,500) is the best starting point — accurate GPS, wrist heart rate, daily suggested workouts, and Garmin Coach training plans. It's the most affordable GPS running watch in the Garmin lineup and covers everything a beginner needs. If an AMOLED display and richer health monitoring matter, the Forerunner 165 (₹27,990) is a worthwhile step up.
