Track your nutrition and health goals

The Garmin Connect app is the companion app for all Garmin smartwatches. It pairs your watch to your phone over Bluetooth, syncs your workout and health data, and gives you dashboards for everything your Garmin tracks — steps, heart rate, sleep, Body Battery, VO2 max, and more.
This guide covers setting up Garmin Connect on iPhone and Android, syncing with Apple Health and Google Fit, exploring the app's features, and fixing common connection issues.
For iPhone users: Download Garmin Connect from the Apple App Store. Search for "Garmin Connect" and tap Get.
For Android users: Download Garmin Connect from the Google Play Store. Search for "Garmin Connect" and tap Install.
Once installed, open the app. Create a free Garmin account or sign in at connect.garmin.com if you already have one.
Your Garmin watch is now connected to your iPhone. Future syncs happen automatically whenever your watch is within Bluetooth range of your phone with the app running in the background.
Syncing Garmin data to Apple Health allows all your Garmin health data — steps, sleep, heart rate, workouts — to appear in the iPhone Health app alongside data from other sources.
Once connected, your Garmin workout and health data will sync to Apple Health after each watch sync.
Garmin activity data will now appear in Google Fit after each sync.
Once your watch is paired, Garmin Connect becomes a detailed health and training dashboard. Here's what the app shows you:
Activity and Fitness View all your recorded workouts — runs, rides, swims, gym sessions — with full GPS maps, pace/split data, heart rate zones, and lap breakdowns. Track daily steps, active minutes, and calories against your personalised goals.
Health Monitoring Access your Body Battery timeline (see exactly when your energy depleted and recovered throughout the day), overnight HRV data, SpO2 readings, stress levels, and detailed sleep stages (light, deep, REM) with a daily sleep score. On newer watches like the Vivoactive 6, Sleep Coach recommendations also appear here.
Performance Analytics Track VO2 max over time to see your aerobic fitness trend. View Training Load and Training Status if your watch supports these. For running watches, access race predictor estimates, Training Readiness scores, and Running Power data on supported models.
Training Plans and Coaching Set up Garmin Coach training plans for 5K, 10K, and half marathon directly through the app — workouts are pushed to your watch for guided daily training. You can also create custom workouts and send them to your watch.
Challenges and Community Join step challenges with friends, follow other Garmin users, and compare activity stats. The social layer is light but useful for staying motivated.
Watch Face and Widget Customisation Change your watch face, reorder data screens, and customise which metrics appear on your widgets — all managed through the app's device settings.
No. Your Garmin watch records activity and health data independently — GPS, heart rate, workouts, sleep, and Body Battery all work without a phone present. The phone and Garmin Connect are needed to sync your data, push updates, receive smart notifications, and access features like Garmin Pay setup or music downloads.
You can use your watch for weeks without syncing and then connect to Garmin Connect to upload all the stored data at once.

Can Garmin connect to iPhone? Yes. Garmin watches connect to iPhone via Bluetooth using the free Garmin Connect app (available on the Apple App Store). All current Garmin smartwatches — including the Forerunner series, Vivoactive, Venu, and Instinct series — are fully compatible with iPhone. Smart notifications, health sync, and Garmin Pay all work with iPhone.
How do I connect my Garmin watch to my iPhone? Download the Garmin Connect app from the App Store, enable Bluetooth on your iPhone, open the app and tap "Add Device", select your watch model, then follow the pairing prompts. Your watch will display a confirmation code — match it on both devices to complete the connection. Full steps are in the guide above.
Does Garmin Connect sync with Apple Health? Yes. In the Garmin Connect app, go to menu → Settings → Connected Apps → Apple Health and tap Connect. Once linked, your Garmin workout and health data syncs to the Apple Health app automatically after each watch sync.
How do I connect Garmin to Google Fit? In the Garmin Connect app, go to menu → Settings → Connected Apps → Google Fit and tap Connect. Sign in to your Google account when prompted. Garmin activity data will then sync to Google Fit.
Does a Garmin watch need to be connected to a phone? No. Garmin watches record all data independently — GPS, workouts, sleep, heart rate, and Body Battery work without a phone. You need the phone and Garmin Connect app to sync data, receive phone notifications on your watch, and set up features like Garmin Pay and music downloads.
How do I sync my Garmin watch? Syncing happens automatically when your watch is in Bluetooth range of your phone with the Garmin Connect app running in the background. To trigger a manual sync, open the Garmin Connect app and pull down on the main screen to refresh.
What is the Garmin Connect app? Garmin Connect is the free companion app for all Garmin smartwatches, available for iOS and Android. It receives data synced from your Garmin watch and displays dashboards for workouts, steps, heart rate, Body Battery, sleep stages, VO2 max, stress, and more. It also manages training plans, watch face customisation, and third-party app integrations like Apple Health and Google Fit.
How do I add a Garmin watch to the Garmin Connect app? Open the Garmin Connect app, tap the device icon or go to menu → Add Device, select your watch model from the list, and follow the pairing instructions. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and your watch is powered on and set to discoverable.
