The Garmin Vivoactive 6 and Vivoactive 5 are the two current lifestyle smartwatches from Garmin's Vivoactive lineup, available in India at Clearcals. The short answer on which to buy:
Choose the Vivoactive 5 (₹24,990) if you want Garmin's core health ecosystem — Body Battery, HRV Status, SpO2, sleep tracking, GPS, and 30+ sports modes — at a competitive price.
Choose the Vivoactive 6 (₹40,990) if you want Sleep Coach with nap tracking, a skin temperature sensor for deeper health and cycle monitoring, 80+ sports modes, advanced running metrics, and double the onboard storage — and the ₹16,000 price difference is worth those upgrades to you.

The most meaningful upgrade in the Vivoactive 6 for most users is Sleep Coach — a feature that analyses your sleep quality, HRV trends, and training load to provide personalised recommendations. It tells you how long to sleep, when to nap, and adjusts guidance based on your recent recovery data. Nap detection and nap tracking are also included on the VA6.
The Vivoactive 5 tracks sleep stages (light, deep, REM), sleep score, and HRV overnight — solid data, but no coaching layer on top of it. For users who want to actively optimise their sleep rather than simply record it, this is a real functional difference.
The VA6 has a skin temperature sensor that tracks nightly temperature variation. This data feeds into two areas: early illness detection (a sudden rise in skin temperature during sleep can indicate the body fighting infection) and women's health tracking (overnight temperature patterns correlate with menstrual cycle phases, improving prediction accuracy in Garmin Connect).
The VA5 does not have a skin temperature sensor. SpO2 and HRV are available on both.
The Vivoactive 6 includes over 80 built-in activity profiles, including Pilates, mobility, breathwork, and more niche sports, alongside the standard running, cycling, swimming, and gym modes. Guided workout videos — animated on-screen exercise demonstrations — are also available on the VA6.
The Vivoactive 5 covers 30+ sports modes. For most users, 30+ covers every activity they'll track. If you participate in less common sports or want the animated workout guidance, VA6 is the better fit.
The Vivoactive 6 includes running cadence, stride length, and vertical oscillation data — metrics that were previously available only in the Forerunner series. These help runners understand their form and efficiency beyond pace and heart rate.
Note: Training Readiness and Running Power remain exclusive to the Forerunner 265 and above — neither the VA6 nor the VA5 has these features.
The VA6 has 8GB of onboard storage versus 4GB on the VA5. Both watches support offline music from Spotify, Deezer, and Amazon Music. For users who want to store multiple large playlists or a broader music library, 8GB provides significantly more headroom.
The VA6 supports an always-on display mode — useful during workouts when you want a constant time or metric readout without raising your wrist. The VA5 AMOLED display requires a wrist raise or button press to activate.
The VA6 is also available in four colours — Lunar Gold, Jasper Green, Pink Dawn, and Black Slate — versus Black only for the VA5 in India.
Battery life is identical at 11 days in smartwatch mode on both. Both have GPS, Garmin Pay, Body Battery, HRV Status, SpO2, stress tracking, standard sleep tracking, Garmin Coach training plans, women's cycle and pregnancy tracking, 5 ATM water resistance, and the same Garmin Connect ecosystem. The core health monitoring experience is present on both.
If you already own a Vivoactive 5, the upgrade case depends on which features matter to you.
Upgrade makes sense if: Sleep Coach is something you'll actively use, you want the skin temperature sensor for health or cycle tracking, or you want the guided workout videos and expanded sports library for your training.
Upgrade is not urgent if: You're satisfied with your VA5's health data and don't need Sleep Coach or skin temperature. The core feature set — Body Battery, HRV, GPS, sports tracking — remains the same.
The ₹16,000 price gap is significant. For new buyers, the VA6 at ₹40,990 is the better long-term investment if the additional features are relevant. For existing VA5 owners, it's an optional upgrade rather than a necessary one.

What is the difference between Garmin Vivoactive 6 and Vivoactive 5? The Vivoactive 6 (₹40,990) adds Sleep Coach with nap tracking, a skin temperature sensor, 80+ sports modes (vs 30+ on VA5), advanced running metrics, guided workout videos, a gyroscope sensor, 8GB onboard storage (vs 4GB), and an always-on display option. Battery life, water resistance, GPS, Body Battery, HRV Status, SpO2, Garmin Pay, and core health monitoring are the same on both. The Vivoactive 5 is ₹24,990 — ₹16,000 less.
Is the Garmin Vivoactive 6 worth it over the Vivoactive 5? For new buyers, the VA6 is the better long-term investment if Sleep Coach, skin temperature monitoring, or guided workout videos are relevant to your use case. For existing VA5 owners, it's not an urgent upgrade — the core health tracking experience is similar. The ₹16,000 price gap is the key consideration.
What is the price of the Garmin Vivoactive 6 in India? The Garmin Vivoactive 6 is priced at ₹40,990 at Clearcals, with a free Hint Premium subscription (worth ₹1,999) included. Buy at Clearcals.

Does the Vivoactive 6 have Training Readiness? No. Training Readiness is available on the Forerunner 265 and Instinct 3 series — not on the Vivoactive 6 or Vivoactive 5. The VA6 has Sleep Coach (sleep-based recovery guidance) and an improved Body Battery, but Training Readiness (which combines HRV, sleep quality, and training load into a daily readiness score) is a Forerunner-only feature.
Does the Vivoactive 5 have Sleep Coach? No. Sleep Coach is exclusive to the Vivoactive 6 in Garmin's lifestyle watch lineup. The Vivoactive 5 tracks sleep stages, sleep score, and overnight HRV, but does not provide Sleep Coach recommendations or nap tracking.
Which is better for running — Vivoactive 6 or Vivoactive 5? The Vivoactive 6 is better for running — it adds advanced running metrics (cadence, stride length, vertical oscillation) and guided workout videos that the VA5 doesn't have. However, neither watch has Training Readiness or Running Power — those features begin with the Forerunner 265 (₹40,990). For serious runners following a structured training plan, the Forerunner 265 is the appropriate choice over either Vivoactive model.
